Worcester Wanderers Snatch Last-Minute Draw in Pre-Season Thriller

Worcester Wanderers FC showcased resilience in their pre-season clash against Bredon, snatching a dramatic 2-2 draw with the final play of the match. Despite fielding just 12 players, the Wanderers started aggressively, controlling the game from the outset. However, a lack of clinical finishing in the first half meant the teams headed into the break locked in a goalless stalemate, despite Worcester’s clear dominance.

A Game of Two Halves

The second half began with Worcester continuing to press, and they appeared to have finally broken through when Heath capitalised on a saved free kick, slotting the ball into the net. However, the referee controversially disallowed the goal, ruling that the whistle had not been blown before the initial kick, leaving the Wanderers frustrated.

This setback seemed to deflate Worcester momentarily, and Bredon took full advantage. They struck first with a classic long ball, catching the Wanderers’ defense off guard. Moments later, Bredon doubled their lead with a speculative long-range effort that took an unfortunate deflection off goalkeeper Lucas’s hand, trickling into the net.

Worcester Rally

Faced with a two-goal deficit, Worcester rallied. Nathan reignited hope with a stunning free kick that sailed past the Bredon keeper, bringing the Wanderers back into the game.

Sensing the chance to salvage a result, Worcester piled on the pressure as the clock ticked down. Their persistence paid off in the final seconds when a well-delivered corner from Heath found Corey, who rose above the Bredon defence to power a header into the back of the net.

The final whistle blew almost immediately after, sealing a well-deserved draw for Worcester that better reflected their control of the game. Despite the positive result, the Wanderers will need to address their finishing woes and defensive lapses as they gear up for a challenging season. With key players set to return from their summer break and new partnerships on the pitch still developing, Worcester will need to be at their best week in and week out to improve on last season’s performance.
